4moms goes 'Back to the Future' with self-installing infant car seat (Video)

A Pittsburgh-based developer of baby products with a robotics twist on Wednesday said it has developed a self-installing car seat. 4moms said the product is a first of its kind and that it will be available next summer. It posted a video on YouTube to demonstrate in honor of "Back to the Future Day."

“It’s a whole new category for us and grander than anything we’ve done before,” 4moms CEO Rob Daley told the Pittsburgh Business Times. “We’ve been at it for a long time. It’s been in the works for five-and-a-half years.”

The company, based in downtown Pittsburgh, has other products carried at Target Corp., Babies-R-Us and other major retailers. Last month, 4moms' infant tub went chainwide at Target, reaching about 1,800 stores. There's no word on how much it would cost.

“We’re in the process of finalizing who our launch partners are going to be,” Daley said.

4moms was No. 8 on the Pittsburgh Business Times’ annual list of the Pittsburgh region’s 100 fastest-growing private companies as ranked by three-year revenue growth. It posted 205.7 percent growth from 2012-2014.

“It’s been a great year and next year will be even better,” Daley said.
